STEM FOR HER
Rooted in ancient societies, sexism in the workforce has had a long-lasting influence on women when selecting their careers. According to the Pew Research Center, 42% of women reported experiencing gender discrimination in the workplace. In addition, only 15% of natural science and engineering jobs are held by women. As represented by these statistics, it takes tremendous courage and resilience for women to occupy a space in one of the most crucial fields for humanity, STEM.

Women in the
Scientific Revolution

‘Visual Representation Inspires Aspiration' was transformed into a printed booklet. It was sold on Amazon, with proceeds supporting the Girl Up STEM fundraiser. I exhibited this work in galleries, donated copies to school libraries, and presented it to my HTIA club, believing its impact would ripple through the community. This initiative inspired many younger girls to join STEM clubs and participate in previously gender-exclusive STEM initiatives.
While conventional narratives often overlook the vital contributions of women, I have chosen to highlight their pioneering achievements. Through careful research, I explore the lives of groundbreaking female scientists and the geographic and historical factors that shaped their paths. Beyond cataloging their accomplishments, I’ve created a unique geographic atlas of female scientists, uniting artistic expression with historical analysis. My hope is that this book serves not only as a tribute to these extraordinary women, but also as an invitation to readers: join me in celebrating their legacies and uncovering the countless other contributions by women in science that remain untold.

I enjoy introducing robotics to children, especially since my own journey in robotics began at a similar age. I love inspiring the next generation with the same spark of curiosity that was ignited in me years ago. Witnessing their excitement and pride as their creations come to life fills me with an immense sense of fulfillment.

Walking a Mile
in Her Shoe
"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes'' is an annual event that aims to raise funds and awareness for Gillion's Place, a shelter for the homeless and domestically abused women. As a volunteer participant, I walked multiple times around the campus wearing uncomfortable high heels to symbolize my acknowledgment of women's challenging circumstances. In adding a physical component to something I’d previously contemplated only intellectually, I felt I had new insight into women’s experiences, allowing me to sharpen and hone my advocacy, making it a deeply meaningful experience. Now, I’m trying to bring it to Columbia and my Chinese hometown of Shanxi!
